Singer-songwriter Georgina Callaghan is to take on the UK’s musical establishment this autumn with a determined ‘do it yourself’ campaign to storm the charts.
The 25-year-old is appealing to all fans of independent music to help her make the UK Top 40 without the backing of any record label, manager or publicist.
She’ll be releasing her self-penned song “Look Around” on iTunes UK on 26th October and hopes music fans will help her show that the industry is changing.
Speaking about her campaign Callaghan said:
“Lots of radio stations have told me they love my music, but won’t put me on air until I am signed by a record company.
By breaking into the top 40 I want to prove that today music fans can decide who becomes famous, it’s no longer just about who the labels decide to back
Last year it took about 2,500 sales to get a single into the UK top 40. I’ve built up 40,000 fans on Myspace worldwide but to achieve this goal I need 2,500 UK fans of real music to back the campaign. Together we can demonstrate that the music industry has changed.
We’ll prove that now you can make it with talent and determination and the help of your fans.”
Callaghan used Supreme Print for her printed promotional material including posters, flyers and business cards to help her assault on the UK's top 40 charts.
Ben Ellis, owner of Supreme Print said:
"From all the staff at Supreme Print we would like to wish Callaghan good luck in her campaign. She has a beautiful voice and hopefully the promotional printing will help to raise her profile even more."
Callaghan is appealing to all supporters of independent music to join her campaign by signing up to her website mailing list (www.callaghaninfo.com). Anyone who signs up will receive updates of the campaign’s progress and a free download of Callaghan’s version of “Over the Rainbow”.
“Look Around” will be released on iTunes on 26th October. Callaghan will ask all her supporters to buy the song that week. If more than 2,500 people in the UK then buy the single between 26th October and Saturday 1st November, Callaghan could break into the UK top 40 the next day.
As this campaign is about shaking up the music industry and seeing what one unsigned artist can achieve, all proceeds from the single will be donated to the music charity Live Music Now.
A clip of Look Around and other Callaghan songs can be heard on the website www.callaghaninfo.com.
